One Lucky Mutt featuring self-serve dog washes in Wildwood, Missouri

One Lucky Mutt by Ann HaydenYesterday, I happened upon a great secret in Wildwood, Missouri:  One Lucky Mutt.  This is a healthy pet food market and self-serve dog wash.  The store carries many great items including leashes, collars, pet spa items, shampoos, conditioners, beds, toys and bowls to name a few.  They have everything to help your pet feel like a true star.

What really caught my eye was the self-serve dog wash.  As I spoke to Tracy, the owner, she told me about her unique service.  It is only $15 and they provide everything except the pooch.  The cost includes a choice of their 7 available shampoos in a wide array of scents.  Also included are all the tools for doing a professional grooming:  brushes, nail clippers, scissors, "hair" clippers and rakes.  Top this off with as many towels as you need and a forced-air professional dryer.  But wait, there is more, they clean up after the bath is over.

The bath areas are equipped with tubs at waist height to save your back.  They have ramps to get the dog into them easily.  And leashes to hold them where you want.

Space is limited, however, no appointment is necessary.  I am going to take advantage of this special store here in Wildwood.

As a footnote they offer the Smelly Mutt Club, where you receive 6 for the price of 5 (on the washes).  My pet is going to love having a bath next time.  And I think I will too.

Tracy and Chris, her husband, have photos on the wall of most of their happy customers.  I thought this was awesome.  What pet does not want to feel like a movie star?

These pet wash places are so very cool!  20+ years ago my late aunt opened the first one in Salinas California.  (It was called Wash A Pet)   I have to tell you, she had the time of her life there.  It was the one "job" that she truly loved.

Hi Ann, Wow!  That sounds like a great place! I would love to visit a healthy pet store.  I am a fanatic about what I feed and don't feed my dog.  We give him a bath every single week and this sounds like a great place for someone that needs to have the job made a little bit easier for them! Let me know how you like it when you take your dog in for a wash.

What a great idea....I will have to find out if we have anything like this around here.  I wish I had a place that I could bath my cats.  I don't have a good place at home, and they are in need of a nice shampoo.

Kris,

It seems like it would be a fun job.  Especially watching people wash dogs or cats who do not want a bath...

Sandy,

A bath every week???  Oh my gosh.  My dog gets a bath not very often.  He hates water.

It should be quite the experience to see me giving him a bath.

What a great idea!  You should see what I look like after I give my dog a bath!  I'm not sure which of us is wetter!

Susan,

I hear you on that.  I am covered with lots of black hair and my back is killing me when I finish the ordeal.  I love my dog but a tub at waist height is going to be a back saver.  I am looking forward to my dog wash adventure...

Ann. That's cool~ We dont have any here. I would skip the scented products though~ Can't be healthy with the chemicals used  in fragrances. bella hates a bath~ fortunately she doesn't need one often, she always seems to smell good, thankfully.

This is totally one of those things where I say to myself "SELF, why didn't you think of that?!!???"

Dang.  Wish I had.  Too cute.  KM

WOW!! What a great idea. I wish we had one here in Jonesboro Arkansas. I sure would use it for Bruno my english bulldog.

Ginger,

You are LUCKY!  Sparky needs a bath often.  He smells like a dog.  Makes sense though since he is one.  ;-)  Their products are hopefully not going to cause issues with his skin.

Thanks for stopping by.  Give Bella a pat on the head for me,

Kristin,

I know, that is what I was thinking.  I could clean up the mess and not groom the dog.  I love the fact they offer the service.

Tinker,

You could start one?  It would be another source of income??

Ann, that looks like a really good idea. Most people don't have the equipment at home, like the tall wash-tubs you mentioned, to wash their dogs. Or their cats! Maybe that's the next business idea. Let's take it and run with it. :)

Cheers,

Robin,

I think it is an excellent idea.  At least this way you do not have to bath the animal...

I vote for pictures of you giving your dog a bath! I wanna see this place!

Terri,

I will try very hard to get some photos.

I am likely to be covered in black hair as is usual when bathing Sparky.  I am so looking forward to going.  Trying to get a time to take the dive...so to speak.

Thanks for commenting,

Sounds like a great way to bond with a pet! If the economy keeps struggling, places like this will probably be a lot busier in 2009.

John,

I think they should do well.  It is a great service.
