The Show Me State Green Sales Tax Holiday

spring in missouriThe Show Me State has declared the week of April 19, 2009 a sales tax holiday for all green purchases.  Now what does this mean to the consumer?  If you were planning on purchasing a new energy star certified appliance from the following list during this week, you would be exempt from the Missouri state sales tax.  The appliance cannot cost more than $1500.  You are allowed, however, to purchase more than one.

Clothes washers      Clothes dryers*

Water heaters      Trash compactors*

Dishwashers      Conventional ovens*

Ranges*              Stoves*

Air conditioners      Furnaces

Refrigerators                Freezers

* Due to the lack of an energy star rating these appliances are not covered:  clothes dryers, trash compactors, conventional ovens, ranges and stoves do not receive an energy star rating.  Therefore, the tax will continue to apply to purchases of these items during the upcoming Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday.  All purchases must be made by midnight of April 25, 2009.

Some cities, counties and/or districts may participate in the sales tax holiday by enacting an ordinance exempting their locally imposed sales tax during the Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday.  Nine counties, 57 cities and several special districts have opted to participate.

So get out there and stimulate the economy!

Hi Ann,

What a great idea! Here in SoCal with such high sales tax (almost 10%) that would really be a big deal.

Dan,

I think they should have extended the tax holiday until the end of the month...
