10 Safer Winter Driving Tips

Yield sign by Ann HaydenHere are ten tips for safer driving during winter here in Wildwood, Missouri or anywhere experiencing winter weather:

1)  Take your time.  Plan for delays and drive with caution.

2)  Pack emergency supplies in your vehicle:  food, water, blanket, shovel, sand, ice melt.

3)  Keep your gas tank at least half full because you never know when you are going to be stuck in a jam.

4)  Do NOT PASS snow plows.  Their job is to clear the road-stay behind them at a safe distance.

5)  Remember bridges and over-passes freeze or support ice first.  Proceed with caution.

6)  Be certain to clean your windows completely.  A clear view is needed to maneuver your vehicle during a snow storm or after one.

7)  Be certain to clear off your headlights and tail lights.

8)  Drive with your lights on.

9)  Do not slam on your brakes.

10)  Remember to turn into a slide.

And while you are on the road, remember there is only one you and someone will miss you if you are gone.

Going to the Movies

theater We went to the movies this evening to see Inkheart.   It was a good entertaining movie.  Not too much violence, not too scary, no rude language and no sexual innuendos..  Obviously, I am not going to ruin the story for anyone, what I really want to talk about is rudeness in the theater.

Has anyone been to the theater on a Friday or Saturday night recently?  I was appalled at the number of youngsters dropped off at the door to be left to watch the show with no parental supervision.  Why do people believe the staff at the theater to be their babysitters?

I truly cannot imagine ever leaving my children with their friends in a public place to congregate when they were young.  I feel there should be at least one responsible parental person on the excursion in case of emergency.  Apparently, I am alone in my belief.

There were many too many unsupervised children in the theater.  They were rude, loud and totally out of control at times while the show was playing.  The staff had to stand watch on at least 3 occasions and this was an action/fantasy film.  Something one would think these young people would be interested in hearing and seeing.

As we were leaving, I paused to ask the manger if it was like this all the time.  He said yes the parents drop them off for a movie and free babysitting.  He kicks them out for bad behavior and they come back in.  He has no recourse.  I said I am so sorry.

We drove home and I cannot help but wonder what are these parents thinking?
